TO ASSIST PARENTS IN THE RELIGIOUS FORMATION AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR CHILDREN.
PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR) CATECHISTS (FOR FIRST - TENTH GRADES)
The goal and intent of religious education is to offer support to parents in educating their children to grow in awareness of God and how to live the Gospel as part of a believing community. Catechists should possess a love for children with a desire to share their faith. Religious education is provided to children in grades 1-10. Classes are held on weekday mornings during the second and third weeks of June. Volunteers serve as Catechists, Co-Catechists, Prayer Listeners, Snack Assistants and Co-Leaders. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: BAPTISM TEAM
Volunteers serve as members of a team to assist families celebrating the sacrament of Baptism. Volunteers work together to prepare and guide parents and godparents at the Baptism Rite. Each volunteer also provides assistance once every six months at the Baptism Seminar. Baptism Team members are scheduled usually every other month. CONTACT: Jody Landry at 752-9449.
CHILDREN'S CATECHUMENATE TEAM
Involves preparing children who are considered to be at an "age of reason", older than 8 years for the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and First Eucharist. A two stage process needs adult volunteers to teach basics of our Catholic Faith and sacramental preparation. CONTACT: Lisa Trahan or Yvette Caillouet at 753-5750.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: FIRST EUCHARIST AND RECONCILIATION TEAM
Involves preparing second graders for celebrating the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Volunteers are needed to assist with six (6) children's sessions and two (2) retreats. CONTACT: Tiffany Reid at 620-8525.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: CONFIRMATION TEAM
Involves facilitating small group sessions to prepare students 10th & 11th grade students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Adults who are willing to dedicate their time and efforts to advance the spirituality of young people preparing for the Sacrament are needed. The students are placed in small faith groups to journey together with two adult facilitators. Adults are asked to serve as a witness to these young adults. CONTACT: Mary Giroir at 752-9079.
YOUTH MINISTRY: 6TH - 12TH GRADE STUDENTS & ADULT CHAPERONES
6TH - 12TH grade students are invited to join us for weekly youth nights filled with fun, faith, fellowship and food! Opportunities are provided for middle school and high school youth to join in a community with their peers during weekly youth nights, MP3s, Abbey Youth Fest and Diocesan events. We are blessed to have an amazing youth room at St. Patrick. It has a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey, foos ball and it is attached to a gym with a basketball goal and volleyball court.
Adults assist the Youth Minister in the development and growth of middle and high school youth. They are called to share their faith with passion and zeal through their action and lifestyles. Time and commitment may be in one or more of the following: prepare and serve refreshments/meals, publicity, prayer support team, prepare and lead weekly lessons or chaperone on a rotating basis. No experience needed. Must be Safe Environment trained and be willing to have a background check. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger at 937-8587.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL LEADERS/HELPERS
Provides children, ages 4 to 10, with an opportunity to learn more about God and their own parish community while enjoying fun-filled activities. It is usually held early to mid July from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Volunteers needed include co-leaders, arts and crafts workers, snack workers, musicians, junior helpers, and adult baby-sitters. Leaders plan lessons, materials are provided. Baby-sitting is provided for workers' children under the age of 4. CONTACT: Tiffany Reid at 620-8525.
YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY: LEADERS AND PARTICIPANTS
A proposed small faith community for young adults, 18-25, who form a connection of faith and life experiences. Volunteers are needed to lead/assist or as a participant/member. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger at 937-8587.
