Faith Formation for Children

Catechists (301, 302, 303)
Volunteers willing to serve as catechists for grades 1-10 (301), co-catechists (302) and snack assistants (303) for the two-week summer program by leading and assisting with children and teens, overseeing the daily schedule and routine office duties. Volunteers should have respect and love for children, a desire to share and willing to complete diocesan mandated safe environment training. CONTACT: Lisa Trahan, 753-5750, ext. 18.

Vacation Bible School Leaders/Helpers (304)
Provides children, ages 4 to 10, the opportunity to learn more about God and their own church community while enjoying fun-filled activities. Usually held in the mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers needed include co-leaders, arts and crafts workers, snack preparers, musicians, junior helpers, and adult baby-sitters. Leaders plan lessons, materials provided. Baby-sitting is provided for workers’ children under age 4. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger, 753-5750, ext 17.

Children’s Catechumenate Team (305)
Prepares children above the “age of reason” to complete their initiation sacraments. A two-stage process requires adult volunteers to teach the basics of the Catholic Faith and sacramental preparation. CONTACT: Lisa Trahan, 753-5750, ext. 18.

Sacramental Preparation

Baptism Team (306)
Assist families bringing their children for Baptism. Volunteers work together to prepare and guide parents and Godparents at the celebration. Members serve every other month. CONTACT: Jody Landry, 752-9449.

First Eucharist & Reconciliation Team (307)
Prepares children to celebrate Reconciliation and Eucharist. Volunteers are needed to assist with six sessions and two retreats. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger,  753-5750, ext 17.

Confirmation Team (308)
Facilitates sessions to prepare 10th and 11th grade students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Sessions are held twice a month during school year. The meetings provide opportunity for teens and adults to journey together in small faith groups. CONTACT: Frank Titus, 328-1402

Faith Formation For Youth/Teens

Youth Ministry (309)
* Sixth through 12th grade students are invited to weekly youth nights filled with fun, faith, fellowship and food! Opportunities are provided for middle school and high school youth to join in a community with their peers during weekly youth nights, MP3s, Abbey Youth Fest, Diocesan events and more. Youth Ministry Adult Team (310)
Adults assist the Youth Minister in the development and growth of middle and high school youth. They are called to share their faith with passion and zeal through their action and lifestyles. Time and commitment may be in one or more of the following: prepare and serve refreshments, meals, publicity, prayer support team, prepare and lead weekly lessons or chaperone on a rotating basis. No experience needed. Must be Safe Environment trained and be willing to have a background check. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger, 753-5757 ext 17.

Adult Formation

Young Adult Ministry (311)
Serves as a source of community, spiritual growth and support for those between the ages of 18 and 39. Theology on Tap is a regularly scheduled young adult event through the Diocese of Baton Rouge. CONTACT: Melissa Harshbarger, 753-5750 ext 17.

“That Man Is You!” — Men (312)
An interactive adult Christian formation program for men combining the best research from science with the teachings of the Catholic faith and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of a man fully alive. “That Man is You!” seeks to form men who will be capable of transforming homes and society. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Catechists (313)
Persons responsible for giving session presentations and/or leading Sunday morning Scripture discussions to adults wishing to become a member of the Catholic Church through the community of St. Patrick. CONTACT: Mary Rogers, 773-9045

Sponsors (314)
Accompany those coming into the church by meeting privately and attending weekly sessions and special liturgies with the candidates. Especially needed from September through Easter. CONTACT: Mary Rogers, 773-9045

Hospitality (315)
Persons responsible for physical arrangements, coordinating volunteers to provide refreshments for occasional meetings and special events and volunteers to assist with arrangements and refreshments for socials and retreats. CONTACT: Mary Rogers, 773-9045
