St. Patrick Preschool prides itself on being one of the best two year old programs in Baton Rouge. We use the Abeka curriculum, which is filled with fun activities for your child. From science to cooking to art, we have it all. An added bonus is the teacher's willingness to assist you in potty training your child.
Our teachers have learned from experience that two year olds mimic behaviors especially when in a classroom setting. When one child goes to "potty", the others want to go as well. We ask that you begin introducing your child to potty training over the summer. In the fall, we will work along with you, the parents, to make life easier for you and your child by continuing this training process. Before you know it, they are all toilet trained! Just think, no expensive diapers or pull-ups to purchase. Best of all, your child is learning at an early age to be independent. Our two's are so proud of their accomplishments.
We are excited about having your child with us in the fall and look forward to working with them.
THREE YEAR OLDS PROGRAM
The three year old program uses the Abeka curriculum, which is filled with fun activities. The children are introduced to the alphabet, shapes, colors, and numbers. Social development and creativity are the focus of this group.
All children entering the three year old program in the fall must be 3 years old by September 30th. Children must be completely potty trained. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made. No pull-ups or diapers will be allowed.
Potty training includes the following: Must be able to communicate their bathroom needs to teacher; Must be able to take care of their bathroom needs independently. (This includes wiping their bottoms, zipping, snapping, and buttoning all clothing.); Must be able to wash and dry hands.
Summer is a great time to work on these things with your child so that they can be ready for preschool in the fall.
YOUNG 4'S AND OLDER 4'S PROGRAM
St. Patrick Preschool prides itself on having not one, but two programs geared toward preparing your child for Kindergarten. Upon promotion from the 3's, some children will go to young fours and others to older fours. Both of these programs are designed to fully prepare your child for Kindergarten, using the Abeka curriculum.
In the young fours class, children are introduced to the alphabet. Letters are taught to be recognized visually as well as by phonetic sound. Hands on activities are used in this process. Children learn basic shapes, colors, concepts, and numbers. Many lessons are taught using each child's creativity through art. Pre-writing skills are used in the beginning of the year. As the year progresses, the children begin to write their first names. Social skills are an integral part of every age group here at St. Patrick Preschool. Children learn how to interact with others through playing. Center time is a very important part of their day.
In the older fours class, children are presented the alphabet by sight and sound as in the young fours. Pre-reading skills are the focus of this group. Children are introduced to letters as vowels and consonants. Blends are taught so that a child can then form words to begin the reading process. Children then progress to reading three and four letter words and three word sentences. Number concepts, simple addition, and a daily writing lesson along with many hands on activities allow each child the ability to prepare a step further towards Kindergarten.
Every child has individual needs. Some children mature more quickly than others. For this reason, we offer these two classes. A child must turn 5 by December 31st in order to promote to older fours. Children will be screened by the Director to determine placement. If there are any exceptions, they will be made at the Director's discretion.
We are proud of our school and the teachers who are dedicated to teaching these children. Both are qualified, creative, and devoted to their profession. We look forward to serving your family in the years to come.
